The RA4x Celica
My RA44 Celica has a
mostly stock 22R engine, with a few minor mods such as K&N airfilter, Doug
Thorley headers, and a custom exhaust. These netted a modest boost in power,
so now I probably have about 105HP instead of 96. Whoop de doo. These engines
are tough, though, and they make tons of torque, so they're faster than you
think. When I get the money, I'm slapping on a 20R head and mild cam, and
that should get me around the 130+HP range. Combine that with a HKS lightweight
flywheel, and that should get me going where I need to plenty fast. Suspension
mods include Tokico blue struts, and full poly bushings in the front.
Eventually, coil-overs are going in the front, and some stiffer springs in
the rear. All this of course, when I get money. Also on the todo list are:
swapping in the rear end from a 78-81 Supra to get LSD and rear disks, paint
job, either 14x7 or 15x7 Panasport wheels (they're super light, and not too
expensive!), and miscellaneous Supra pieces like the B-pillar covers.
If you're looking for parts for your Celica, you should try Chris
Myer at
CyberSpace Automotive. He's
got a 76 Celica himself, and always has been helpful when I need parts.
Here's a partial list of things Chris
can get for you. Ask him if it's not listed, he might be able to get it
for you!
Update:I found a lead on some performance springs for
a great price, and I should be receiving them in a few weeks.
Here's some pictures of various RA4x Celicas (including mine, the white
RA44 liftback). Click on each image to view the full size image.

As you can see, my Celica is in pretty good shape. The left front fender
was in an accident a few years back, and doesn't look as good as the others,
and rust has started creeping in a few areas (I've stopped those areas
temporarily by sanding the affected areas down and putting Corroless over it)
I'm planning on getting it repainted in the future, either dark blue, silver,
or black.

This is exactly what the front end of my car looks like, and he has the
Panasport wheels I want! Look at that inside front tire!

This is a 78-79 Celica. You can tell by the round headlights and rounded
hood. I like the 80-81 better myself.

Now this guy has a nice RA44. He dropped in the 22RTE from a 87-89 truck.
With that engine, you can get a LOT of power.

I found these images from various places. I got these last four from
a fellow on OCC. If anyone needs credit for any of these pictures,
let me know.
